Sourcing data from the USGS report titled “Analysis of Water Use in the United States: 1950– 1995,” the table represents the two largest categorical uses of water in the U.S. – Thermoelectric Cooling and Irrigation. The shape of the table is based on the Colorado River in its entire length, and its main tributary, the Green River. The width of the river’s metal base reflects the water usage levels for the year 1950, leading to the wood top representative of 2000. The viewer can see the substantial growth of thermoelectric water use is countered by a subtle decrease in irrigation water use.
